Russia criticizes Japan and discusses Ukraine and Syria
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued several critical statements during a weekly press briefing in Moscow. Addressing Japan, Zakharova claimed the nation is on a ‘dangerous path’ and accused it of failing to fully accept the outcomes of World War II while attempting to portray itself as a victim of Western powers.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Zakharova stated that attacks by the Ukrainian military on the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant jeopardize nuclear safety. She further criticized the European Union’s plan to transfer interest from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, characterizing the move as ‘participation in terrorist attacks.’ Zakharova also asserted that the West is exploiting Ukraine as a territory for resource exploitation.
On bilateral relations with Syria, Zakharova noted that an agreement regarding the future of Russian bases in Hmeymim and Tartus would accelerate cooperation between the two nations. She also confirmed the commencement of direct flights between Russia and Syria.
