Russia delivers military equipment to Libya

Satellite imagery from the American firm Vantor reveals that approximately 3,000 tons of Russian military equipment was unloaded at the port of Tobruk in northeastern Libya during mid-September. The shipment was reportedly destined for the Haftar clan, an organization that controls the eastern and southern regions of the country.

In addition to the hardware delivery, reports indicate that Russia is recruiting drone operators for the African Corps, a mercenary formation intended to replace the Wagner Group and secure Russian interests in Africa. Recruitment advertisements on Telegram have targeted Russian citizens under the age of 45 without dual citizenship to operate assault drones, including Geran models.

Analysts note that the proximity of Tobruk—located roughly 400 km from the Greek coast and 1,000 km from Italy—raises concerns regarding the security of Europe's southern borders and NATO's southern flank. The Geran drones, which can reach speeds of 600 km/h, possess a range that could potentially threaten targets near the European coast.
