Russia deploys faster jet and missile drones against Ukraine
Russian forces are increasingly deploying advanced drone technologies, including jet-powered and missile drones, to bypass Ukrainian air defenses. Military experts note a shift toward faster systems like the Geran-4 and Geran-5, which approach the capabilities of cruise missiles but remain cheaper to produce.
Recent footage released by Ukrainian officials shows a Geran-2 kamikaze drone featuring unusual modifications, including a protruding component in the nose section and a custom wing designation “5+0 Spec”. This structural change suggests the integration of new warhead configurations or electronic warfare modules designed to counter anti-aircraft jamming and protect navigation signals.
Analysts from the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation indicate that Russia is establishing mass production of these faster drones to compensate for the declining effectiveness of conventional Shahed models. The increased speed of these new systems reduces the time available for Ukrainian air defense units to detect, track, and intercept incoming targets.
