Russia expels Romanian diplomat following airspace violations

Russia has announced the expulsion of a Romanian diplomat, declaring the individual persona non grata. This move follows Romania's recent decision to expel a Russian diplomat.

The diplomatic tension stems from incidents in which the Romanian military shot down three drones that violated Romanian airspace over three consecutive days. Romanian authorities identified at least one of these as a Russian Geran-2 drone. Bucharest has held Russia responsible for these incursions, which it claims threaten regional security and violate the airspace of Romania, NATO, and the European Union.

In response to the situation, Romania has recalled its ambassador to Moscow for consultations.
