Russia faces economic pressure and escalating security threats

Russia faces mounting economic and security pressures as Ukrainian drone strikes target critical infrastructure deep within its territory. Recent attacks have hit oil refineries in Saratov and chemical plants in Brezniki, as well as logistics hubs like Wildberries. These strikes aim to disrupt the Russian economy and war funding.

Domestically, the Russian economy is struggling with signs of stagflation. Despite high interest rates maintained by Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina to combat inflation, which some estimate could reach 15 percent, inflation remains high. This creates a difficult environment for President Vladimir Putin, who seeks lower rates to fund the military industry.

On the geopolitical front, tensions are escalating. Russian official Dmitry Medvedev has issued warnings regarding potential nuclear use if Russian security is threatened, accusing the West of pushing the world toward a nuclear apocalypse. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha condemned recent Russian drone attacks near the Polish border, describing them as terror aimed at the doorstep of the EU and NATO.
