Russia faces military attrition and strengthens North Korean alliance

Western officials report that the Russian military is facing a significant manpower deficit in Ukraine, with monthly casualties exceeding new recruitment by approximately 6,000 personnel. Despite recruiting about 1,000 soldiers daily, Russia has struggled to replace those killed or wounded over the last two months. In response to these losses, President Vladimir Putin has intensified strikes against Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure.

Simultaneously, Russia is deepening its strategic alliance with North Korea. Reports indicate Russia has requested 120 ballistic missiles, launch systems, and up to 50,000 troops from Pyongyang. To bolster its arsenal, Russia plans to produce 10,000 ‘Dan-T’ cruise missiles by 2027, which are designed to strike armored vehicles and infrastructure from various air and ground platforms.

In response to North Korean missile and nuclear threats, the United States, South Korea, and Japan will conduct joint military exercises titled ‘Freedom Edge’ from September 9 to 11. These drills aim to test readiness in international waters near Jeju Island.
