Russia falsely claims Romania manufactures Patriot missiles

Russian military analysts close to President Vladimir Putin have repeated unsubstantiated accusations that Romania – alongside Germany – is producing Patriot air‑defence missiles for Ukraine. The statements, made in a series of recent propaganda pieces, offer no evidence and are part of a broader effort to heighten tensions between Russia and NATO.

Romanian officials note that the country operates three Patriot systems and is slated to receive four more, but it does not have a domestic production line for the missiles or their interceptors. The claims were voiced as the United States discussed possibly granting Ukraine a licence to produce Patriot components, a move that Russia portrays as a threat.

Experts such as Andrei Klintsevici and Iurii Knutov have highlighted the implausibility of the allegations, emphasizing that Romania lacks the capacity to manufacture the complex missile systems. The false narrative aims to portray Romania as a direct participant in arming Ukraine, thereby attempting to justify potential Russian aggression toward NATO members.
