Ukraine energy infrastructure hit by massive Russian missile and drone attacks
Russia has launched a massive wave of aerial attacks against Ukraine, specifically targeting the nation's energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that more than 15 critical power generation and transmission facilities were hit across various regions, including Lutsk, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, and others. The strikes, which utilized ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hundreds of drones, have left over one million people without electricity.
The attacks have resulted in significant civilian casualties and damage. Reports indicate at least eight deaths and approximately 60 injuries across multiple regions. Specific incidents include strikes in Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Volyn, where a drone hit a food-processing facility. In some areas, residential buildings and shopping centers were also damaged.
Zelenskyy noted that these attacks come as winter approaches, characterizing the campaign as an attempt to leave millions without heat and electricity. He highlighted that Russia has conducted 76 attacks on Ukraine's energy, oil, and gas sectors within a single week, despite previous discussions regarding energy truces. Meanwhile, Russian authorities claimed to have intercepted numerous Ukrainian drones and reported destroying drone crews in the Dubropoli area.
