Russia pressures firms to fund drone defense amid Kyiv strike and threats to Kasparov

Russian companies are facing increasing pressure to fund their own anti-drone defense systems following a presidential decree. This shift comes as Ukraine intensifies long-range drone strikes, which have impacted Russian refining capacity and commercial warehouses. Experts note that requests for such systems have increased fivefold, with some business leaders describing the mandatory expenditures as a ‘new tax.’ One company in a border region reportedly spent over 1.5 billion rubles on aerial defense.

In Ukraine, a Russian drone strike hit the grounds of a nuclear research institute in Kyiv. While the strike caused a fire, Ukrainian regulators confirmed that the research reactor and its safety systems were not damaged, and no increase in radioactivity was detected.

Separately, exiled Russian opposition figure and chess champion Garry Kasparov reported that Lithuanian and American security services warned him and his associate, Ivan Tyutrin, that their lives are in danger. This warning follows recent US Department of Justice indictments against alleged Russian intelligence agents accused of conspiring to carry out assassinations.
