Russia plans autumn mobilization of 500,000 troops

Ukrainian Counter‑Disinformation Center director Andrij Kowalenko said Russia is preparing to mobilise up to half a million personnel by the autumn of 2026. The plan calls for a portion of the conscripts to be sent to the eastern front within two weeks of training to plug gaps, while the remainder will receive at least a month of preparation for a possible new front.

The mobilisation is presented as a response to acute personnel shortages and a way to create new operational options, but Russian authorities are avoiding the term “general mobilisation” because of domestic concerns ahead of the State Duma elections in September. Ukrainian intelligence warns that the influx of troops could lead to intensified infantry fighting, increased drone and air‑to‑ground attacks and a very harsh winter on the front.

Analysts note that Russia is also dealing with fuel shortages, inflation, a labour shortfall and sanctions that strain its economy, adding further pressure to replenish its armed forces.
