Ukraine destroys Russian air defense systems amid Russian crackdown on infrastructure security

Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted and destroyed two Russian Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense systems in separate operations. The first strike occurred on August 29 near the occupied city of Kerch in Crimea, while the second took place a day later near a military airfield in Yeysk, Krasnodar Krai. In the Yeysk attack, Ukrainian forces reportedly bypassed Russian attempts to use decoys to protect the system.

Concurrently, the Russian government is responding to the impact of Ukrainian drone strikes on domestic infrastructure through new economic measures. President Vladimir Putin has issued a decree allowing the state to take over management of critical infrastructure companies that fail to implement effective defenses against unmanned aerial vehicles. This decree enables the state property management agency, Rosimushchestvo, to place such entities under temporary administration if security measures are deemed insufficient or ineffective.

These developments follow significant disruptions to Russian logistics and energy sectors, including strikes on refineries and major e-commerce hubs like Wildberries and Ozon, which have contributed to fuel shortages and agricultural challenges.
