Russia strikes Kyiv with missiles as Ukraine hits Russian energy sites

Russia launched a heavy ballistic missile attack on Kyiv, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain in shelters. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported explosions in the Sevchenko district, noting that medical teams had been called to the scene.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian forces conducted large-scale drone strikes targeting Russian energy infrastructure. A major strike on the industrial city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, located approximately 1,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, resulted in 13 deaths and 75 injuries. The attack targeted industrial units, including oil refineries and a petrochemical plant.

These strikes have caused power outages in Russian regions including Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, and Gelendzhik, as well as in Russian-occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian officials stated these operations aim to bring the costs of the war to the Russian population and pressure President Vladimir Putin to cease the invasion.
