Russia-Ukraine war: Strategic strikes and new aid pledges

On the 1,662nd day of the full-scale invasion, the conflict has evolved into a war of strategic attrition. Russia is targeting Ukraine’s fuel, logistics, and economic infrastructure, while Ukraine conducts long-range strikes against Russian oil, gas, and industrial capabilities.

Recent Russian strikes in central Ukraine hit the city of Pavlohrad, killing at least five people and injuring 76. In Dnipro, an attack on a sunflower oil plant owned by the US company Bunge resulted in two deaths and five injuries. In the Odesa region, two Azerbaijani crew members were killed during a strike.

On the security front, Polish and Ukrainian intelligence services reportedly prevented a direct threat to a Ukrainian border crossing, while Poland prepares for potential future Russian aggression at other border points.

In terms of international support, Canada has pledged 350 million Canadian dollars to bolster Ukraine’s air defense and drone supplies through the Jumpstart program. Meanwhile, Amnesty International reported that Russia is illegally recruiting foreign nationals from countries including Brazil, Colombia, Sri Lanka, and South Africa using fraudulent job advertisements to serve as frontline troops.
