Russian 'Banderol' winged missile strikes Ukrainian cities

Russia has deployed a new operational‑tactical winged missile, designated the "Banderol" (type S8000), developed by the sanctioned Russian firm Kronshat. The weapon uses a Chinese‑made SW800Pro jet‑engine, can travel up to 500 km at speeds of 500‑650 km/h, carries a 150 kg warhead and can execute tighter turns than previous Russian winged rockets.

First observed in April 2023 against the Odessa region, the missile has been used intensively in June‑July 2024 against Kharkiv, Odessa, Izium and surrounding suburbs. Ukrainian intelligence reports frequent attacks, causing civilian casualties, dozens of injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure. The system is typically launched from Orion attack drones but can also be mounted on Mi‑28N helicopters and Su‑24 bombers. Ukraine has sanctioned entities supplying components to Kronshat, citing the weapon’s role in terrorising the civilian population.
