Russian Banderol missile attacks on Ukraine

In July 2026, Russia fielded a new operational‑tactical winged missile, the Banderol (type S8000), built by the sanctioned firm Kronshat and powered by a Chinese jet‑engine. The system, launchable from drones, helicopters and bombers, was first seen in April 2023 and saw intensive use in mid‑2024 against Ukrainian cities such as Kharkiv, Odessa and Izium, causing civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.

By early August 2026 the same Banderol rockets were being employed in large numbers against Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, especially Odesa, a key grain‑export hub. Their low cost and high maneuverability made them hard to intercept, accounting for the majority of attacks on the port facilities. In response, Ukraine’s 208th Anti‑Aircraft Missile Brigade demonstrated a mobile STASH air‑defence system mounted on a pickup truck, pairing a RADA radar with Hellfire missiles to engage fast‑moving Russian drones and protect critical infrastructure.
