Russia limits grain shipments at three Black Sea ports amid risks
Three major Russian Black Sea grain export terminals—NZT and KSK in Novorossiysk and ZTKT in Taman—have restricted grain deliveries by truck after a surge in shipping risks. Ukrainian drone attacks on grain vessels in the Sea of Azov prompted Russia to curb vessel movements, close the port of Kavkaz and ban night traffic at Novorossiysk. The three terminals can handle more than 20 million tonnes of grain annually, while total Russian seaborne grain exports total about 50 million tonnes. They primarily serve buyers such as Egypt and Turkey, and owners Demetra and Delo Group said they are exploring Baltic ports and the Caspian route as safer alternatives.
In parallel, Russia’s largest Black Sea oil export facility, the Sheskharis terminal in Novorossiysk, has resumed crude‑oil loadings after a suspension caused by Ukrainian drone activity. The terminal can move roughly 650,000 barrels per day through the Transneft pipeline. Night‑time shipping restrictions remain in place, limiting the terminal’s operational capacity despite the restart.
These developments reflect heightened security challenges for Russian export infrastructure in the Black Sea region.
