Russian companies increasingly self-protect against drone attacks
Russian private companies are increasingly taking responsibility for protecting their facilities from Ukrainian drone attacks. According to reports, businesses are adapting their operations by hiring armed guards, renting air defense systems, and developing their own detection and interception technologies.
This shift follows a Kremlin decree issued last month, which warned that companies failing to provide adequate protection against drones could face temporary state control. To mitigate risks, some firms are paying the Russian Ministry of Defense to lease air defense systems and instructors, while others are hiring defense industry engineers to build custom solutions, sometimes based on foreign designs.
The increased investment in security is driven by the expanding range and intensity of Ukrainian drone strikes, which have reached deeper into Russian territory due to increased domestic drone production in Ukraine.
