Russian conscripts face 20‑35 minute life expectancy on Ukraine front

New data highlight the extreme mortality of recent Russian volunteers fighting in Ukraine. Recruits signed one‑year contracts and receive bonuses of up to €70,000 and debt‑wipe programs, yet their average survival time on the front line is reported as only 20 to 35 minutes. From enlistment to death, a soldier’s total lifespan is estimated at ten days to three weeks, encompassing brief training and rapid deployment.

Western intelligence estimates Russian casualties at more than one million killed or wounded since February 2022, with monthly losses regularly exceeding 30,000. Recruitment has slowed, with daily enlistments of 800‑1,000 volunteers, prompting the Kremlin to offer further financial incentives.

Amid the high death toll, some soldiers have voiced dissent. Russian veteran Alexander Lunin posted a video demanding a meeting with President Vladimir Putin and warning that the army could turn its weapons against the Kremlin if grievances are ignored.
