Russian drone strike in Galați injures civilians, UK summons Russian ambassador

A Russian drone hit a residential block in the Romanian city of Galaţi on the night of 28‑29 May, exploding and destroying an apartment occupied by a 53‑year‑old woman and her 14‑year‑old son. Both were injured and taken to hospital.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper condemned the attack, describing the wounding of civilians on NATO territory as unacceptable, and summoned the Russian ambassador to London. The incident prompted statements of support from NATO allies, an OSCE meeting at Romania’s request, and the deployment of Italian Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to the Mihail Kogălniceanu base for reinforced air policing.
