Russian troops seize Liman and nearby villages in Ukraine
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its forces have captured the village of Piszantsi in the Dnipropetrovsk region and Novoskelivka (Novosiólovka) in the Zaporizhzhia province. The ministry said the seizure of Piszantsi weakens Ukrainian defenses and opens a path for further advances, while taking Novoskelivka allows Russian troops to press pressure on Ukrainian positions in Zaporizhzhia.
President Vladimir Putin stated that Russian forces have practically taken the Donetsk city of Liman and are advancing toward the strategic bastion of Sloviansk, only a few kilometres away. He also claimed that around 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been encircled near the Stary Oskol river and acknowledged fuel supply problems caused by Ukrainian drone attacks.
Russia’s air‑defence units reported shooting down 511 Ukrainian drones in a single day and, in another statement, downed 590 drones plus a HIMARS rocket. Ukrainian losses were said to exceed 1,460 killed or seriously injured in the latest 24‑hour period.
