Russian Geran-4 drone enters NATO airspace and crashes in Moldova
A Russian jet-powered Geran-4 drone penetrated NATO airspace on Tuesday, flying over Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania before crashing in Moldova. The drone, traveling at approximately 500 km/h, spent about 25 minutes in Romanian airspace at an altitude of 7–8 km. Spanish F-18 fighter jets were deployed from a Romanian airbase to monitor the situation.
Moldovan police recovered fragments of the drone near the village of Mihăileni Vechi. Investigators identified the wreckage as a Geran-type drone and noted a large impact crater containing destructive metal pellets.
This incident coincides with reports of increased Russian military spending, which has risen by 30% compared to last year. Despite claims from Russian leadership regarding economic stability, analysts suggest the fiscal situation is deteriorating due to rising war costs and the impact of Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure.
