Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev visits Pakistan

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev completed a landmark four-day visit to Pakistan, marking the first time a Russian interior minister has visited the country. The visit focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation, building mutual trust, and exploring joint efforts to combat terrorism and other transnational security threats.

During his stay, Kolokoltsev held high-level meetings with several Pakistani officials, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. In a meeting at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, Munir and Kolokoltsev discussed the regional security situation and emphasized the need for closer coordination between their respective security institutions.

Kolokoltsev praised Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability, specifically acknowledging the Pakistan Army’s role in counterterrorism efforts. While some regional media commentaries attempted to frame the visit around potential disagreements regarding Afghanistan, reports indicate the visit was planned months in advance to prioritize institutional ties and internal security cooperation.
