Russian missile strike kills eight in Ukraine, prompting Zelensky's call for more air defenses

At least eight people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a large Russian missile attack that hit several regions of Ukraine during the night. The heaviest blow fell on a village near Kryvyi Rih, where a ballistic missile destroyed a house, killing three adults and three children; other casualties occurred in Kyiv and Poltava. Russia launched 74 missiles and 284 drones, while Ukrainian forces intercepted 55 missiles and 265 drones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reiterated his appeal to allies for additional air‑defence systems and interceptor missiles, stating, “It was an ordinary house that was destroyed by a ballistic missile.” He urged partners to send more air‑defence assets to protect civilians against the ongoing barrage.
