Russia’s Lavrov seeks US clarification on Ukraine proposals after Anchorage summit
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s claim that no agreement was reached at the August 2025 Anchorage summit was inaccurate. Lavrov argued that Russia had accepted the US proposals discussed there and demanded an explanation of the United States’ current position on Ukraine.
Speaking at the Primakov Forum in Moscow, Lavrov asked whether the United States had altered its stance after the recent G‑7 meeting in Évian‑les‑Bains, France. He referenced a visit by US special envoy Steve Vitkov to Moscow days before the Anchorage talks, during which the proposals were reportedly conveyed to President Donald Trump. Lavrov’s remarks highlight ongoing Russian uncertainty about US diplomatic signals regarding the Ukraine conflict.
