Rust boat garage fire: 200 structures destroyed at Lake Neusiedler See

Investigators from the Burgenland State Criminal Investigation Office are working to determine the cause of a massive fire that destroyed approximately 200 boat garages in the Rust Bay at Lake Neusiedler See. The fire, which occurred on a Thursday night, involved structures made of wood with metal roofs, resulting in enormous property damage.

Approximately 300 firefighters from 14 different departments responded to the blaze. While the fire was prevented from spreading to nearby reeds and no injuries were reported, an oil barrier was deployed in the lake to prevent debris and contaminants from polluting the water.

Authorities have taken water quality samples to monitor the environmental impact. Once the damage assessment is complete, officials plan to coordinate the clearing of debris and the reconstruction of the area.
