RWA tokenization market grows despite liquidity challenges
The market for tokenized Real World Assets (RWA) is experiencing significant growth, though liquidity remains a major challenge. According to a report by Pantera Capital, the total value of 671 tokenized assets reached $331.8 billion as of June 30.
Stablecoins continue to dominate the sector, accounting for $295.5 billion, or 89.1% of the total market value. In contrast, other RWA assets grew by 13.3% during the second quarter, rising from $32 billion to $36.3 billion. Despite this expansion, liquidity is highly concentrated. For example, traders often favor derivatives, which see volumes 16 times higher than the tokenized equities themselves.
Pantera Capital notes that while the technical ability to create these tokens has improved, the primary hurdle is now building sufficiently liquid markets to facilitate efficient trading among investors.
