Rwanda and DRC to hold Geneva peace talks on Washington Accords
Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are scheduled to reconvene in Geneva on September 16 and 17 for talks regarding the implementation of the 2025 Washington Accords. The meeting, conducted through the Joint Security Coordination Mechanism (JSCM), will include mediators from the United States, Qatar, Togo, and the African Union Commission.
The discussions aim to address unresolved security commitments, including the DRC's obligation to neutralize the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) and Rwanda's commitment to disengage its forces and lift defensive measures. In a separate but related regional development, Rwandan and Tanzanian military officers held their 16th border security meeting in Nyagatare from September 9 to 11, 2026. The meeting focused on border security and cross-border coordination between the Rwandan 5th Infantry Division and the Tanzanian 202nd Brigade.
