RWE reaches halfway point in Nordseecluster offshore wind project
RWE has reached a major milestone in its Nordseecluster offshore wind project with the installation of the 22nd wind turbine. Located approximately 50 kilometers north of the German island of Juist, this marks the halfway point for the first construction phase, Nordseecluster A, which consists of 44 turbines.
The project utilizes Vestas turbines, each with a capacity of up to 15 MW, installed by the vessel Norse Wind from DEME. Nordseecluster A is expected to be fully installed by the end of 2026, with full grid connection and a capacity of 660 MW anticipated in early 2027. The first turbine already began feeding electricity into the grid in late July.
The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add 900 MW of capacity. Foundation production has already commenced, with turbine installation planned for 2028 and commercial operations expected to begin in early 2029. Once both phases are complete, the 1.6 GW project is expected to generate approximately 6.5 TWh of renewable electricity annually to support industrial decarbonization. The project is owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%).
