Ryan Lasko undergoes rehabilitation after paralyzing neck injury
Ryan Lasko, a 24-year-old outfielder and top prospect for the Oakland Athletics, is undergoing rehabilitation after being paralyzed in an on-field collision. The incident occurred on June 30 during a Double-A game in Frisco, Texas, when Lasko collided with teammate Devin Taylor while both players attempted to catch a ball.
Lasko suffered fractures to the C6 and C7 vertebrae in his neck, resulting in tetraplegia. Following emergency surgery for spinal decompression and stabilization, he spent two weeks in the hospital before returning to New Jersey. He is currently working at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation to master functional tasks and regain independence in moving between his bed and wheelchair.
