Ryanair passenger lawsuit follows mid-air window breach

A massive lawsuit is being prepared following a dramatic incident on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen on July 10. During the flight, a 61-year-old Serbian passenger, Ljubiša Karović, was partially sucked out of a cabin window after an engine component failure caused a breach in the aircraft fuselage.

Preliminary findings from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicate that a fan blade from the engine broke away, striking the fuselage and shattering a window. While bird remains were discovered in the engine, suggesting a possible bird strike, the attorney for the victims, Vasileios Tsiaras, argues that birds alone could not have caused such extensive damage. He is investigating whether material fatigue or improper maintenance of the 18-year-old Boeing 737 played a role.

Karović, who suffered serious injuries including burns and trauma, is being represented alongside 35 other passengers who witnessed the event. The legal action, which may be filed in the United States to seek higher damages, could involve claims totaling tens of millions of euros against Ryanair, Boeing, and maintenance providers.
