Ryanair invests €50 million in Shannon Airport, creating 400 jobs

Ryanair has announced a €50 million investment to expand its engineering operations at Shannon Airport in Ireland. The plan includes building a new four‑bay aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangar, which will become the airline's largest maintenance facility in the country, and establishing a Ryanair Engineering Academy. The academy will provide up to 80 apprenticeship places and train more than 400 aircraft mechanics between 2027 and 2031. The expansion is expected to create over 400 high‑skilled jobs. Ryanair submitted a planning application for the project, with construction slated to start in early 2027 and the facility to become operational by late 2028. The investment is supported by Enterprise Ireland and has been welcomed by Irish officials, including Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke. Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said the project will "increase Ryanair’s aircraft maintenance capacity at Shannon… and provide dedicated training facilities for up to 80 apprentices, training over 400 mechanics between 2027 and 2031."
