Ryanair European hub and maintenance expansion

In late July 2026 Ryanair announced two major investments that broaden its European footprint. On 23 July the airline committed €50 million to expand engineering operations at Shannon Airport in Ireland, constructing a new four‑bay MRO hangar—the largest in the country—and establishing a Ryanair Engineering Academy that will train up to 80 apprentices and more than 400 aircraft mechanics. Construction is slated for early 2027 with the facility operational by late 2028, creating over 400 high‑skill jobs.

Two days later, on 25 July, Ryanair pledged €100 million to its Abruzzo hub at Pescara Airport in Italy, doubling the aircraft base to two planes and adding five new routes while increasing frequencies to existing destinations. The expansion is expected to generate up to 950 jobs in the region. The same announcement noted parallel growth plans for Sarajevo Airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Ryanair is preparing a joint statement on further network development and route tendering for 2027–2029.

Together, these moves illustrate Ryanair’s accelerated strategy to invest in airport infrastructure, maintenance capacity, and route networks across Ireland, Italy and the Balkans, emphasizing job creation and deeper market penetration in the European low‑cost carrier sector.
