Ryanair passenger Ljubisa Karović nearly sucked out of plane window

On 10 July 2026 a Ryanair flight (FR1879) departing from Thessaloniki, Greece, bound for Memmingen, Germany suffered a sudden cabin‑pressure loss when a fragment of the engine broke through a side window. Serbian entrepreneur Ljubisa Karović, 61, was partially expelled from the aircraft for about one and a half to two minutes. He was held back by his wife, another passenger and a fellow traveller while the cabin crew secured the aircraft and an emergency landing was performed at the departure airport.

Karović sustained serious injuries to his neck, head and torso, was fitted with a neck brace for at least six weeks and now suffers panic attacks and chronic pain. His lawyer, Vasilis Tsiaras, says the family will pursue legal action, claiming Ryanair offered only an automated email and has not contacted the injured passenger directly. Ryanair has defended its crew’s response and said the window failure was caused by an external object rather than a maintenance fault. The incident is under investigation by Greek authorities with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
