Ryanair passengers prepare multi-million euro lawsuit after mid-air window failure
Passengers on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki to Memmingen are preparing a multi-million euro collective lawsuit following a mid-air incident on July 10. The incident involved a Boeing 737 where engine failure reportedly caused debris to strike and break a cabin window, leading to rapid decompression at approximately 11,500 meters.
Serbian passenger Ljubiša Karović was partially pulled through the opening, with his head and shoulder exposed to the exterior. While Karović suffered serious injuries, including frostbite and potential long-term trauma, Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has dismissed claims that the passenger was sucked out of the aircraft, calling such reports ‘complete nonsense.’
A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) indicates that bird remains were found in the engine, suggesting a possible bird strike. However, legal representatives for the 36 passengers involved are questioning the aircraft's maintenance standards and argue that a bird strike alone would not cause such significant engine disintegration.
