Ryanair warns of bag‑size tricks and long queues under EU's new digital border system

Ryanair has alerted passengers that, from September 2025, the free personal bag allowance will increase to a maximum of 40 × 30 × 20 cm and 10 kg. To avoid excess‑bag fees, packaging expert Tom Schott recommends placing a lightweight cardboard insert inside the bag to keep it rigid and fully utilise the new dimensions.

At the same time, the airline warns that the EU's Entry‑Exit System (EES) – a digital biometric border‑control scheme for travellers from outside the Union – is causing hour‑long queues at several airports, including Berlin, Tenerife South, Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Milan‑Bergamo, Krakow and Paris‑Beauvais. Passengers have missed flights and incurred extra costs, and Ryanair is urging governments to delay the system's rollout, especially during school‑holiday periods, citing families as particularly affected.
