Addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a speech emphasizing India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. He warned that India would exercise its right to self-defense against terrorism and stated that friendship and goodwill cannot coexist with terror activities.

Jaishankar criticized an unnamed country, described as a “serial practitioner of terrorism,” for misrepresenting facts at the assembly. He argued that state-sponsored terrorism for cross-border objectives poses a direct challenge to the global order and called for accountability for governments that fund such activities.

On global stability, the minister warned that the world is “living on the edge of an abyss” due to the weaponization of finance, supply chains, and technology. He highlighted the “4F crisis” facing the Global South, involving food, fuel, fertilizer, and finance, exacerbated by factors like El Niño and grain movement impediments.

Regarding regional conflicts, Jaishankar called for restraint in the Gulf, condemning the targeting of ships and seafarers in international waterways. He also reiterated India’s support for a two-state solution in the Middle East and noted that India is providing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.
