S17 expressway expansion connects Warsaw to Ukrainian border

The development of the S17 expressway in Poland is progressing, with over 180 km of the planned 320 km route already completed. The expressway is designed to connect Warsaw with Lublin, Zamość, and the Polish-Ukrainian border at Hrebenne. It serves as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and the E372 route from Warsaw to Lviv.

Approximately 130 km of the route remains to be finished. A critical missing segment is the 16 km Eastern Warsaw Bypass (WOW), which is essential to completing the ring road around the capital and relieving congestion on the S8. A contract worth over 7.4 million PLN was signed in May for the technical and environmental studies required for this bypass, with the designer having 48 months to complete the documentation. If the design and approval processes proceed efficiently, the bypass could be ready by 2030.

In the Lublin Voivodeship, work is also underway on sections leading toward the border. The Tomasz Lubelski to the state border section is being developed with EU support through the ‘Connecting Europe’ project, which has allocated over 61 million euros to the initiative.
