Capital Regional District launches wheelchair‑friendly launch area at Elk Lake, Saanich
The Capital Regional District (CRD) announced the opening of a new accessibility upgrade at Elk Lake in Saanich. The project adds a seated transfer bench and a partially submerged launch area adjacent to the Brookleigh boat launch, enabling safe, stable entry for wheelchair users. A video featuring CRD Accessibility Advisory Committee member Tanelle Bolt will be released on social media and the CRD website on July 28.
The upgrade complements existing accessible amenities at Elk Lake, including parking, paved trails and toilets, and follows recent improvements such as a wheelchair‑accessible playground at Hamsterly Beach.
The development was designed with input from the CRD Accessibility Advisory Committee to enhance inclusive recreation for residents and visitors.
