Capital Regional District park accessibility

In late July 2026 the Capital Regional District (CRD) expanded its effort to make Victoria‑area parks more inclusive. On July 24 the district announced an accessibility upgrade at Elk Lake in Saanich, adding a seated transfer bench and a partially submerged launch area next to the Brookleigh boat launch for wheelchair users, with a promotional video slated for release on July 28.

Four days later, on July 28, CRD opened the new wheelchair‑friendly paddlecraft launch at the Brookleigh Boat Launch in Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park. The facility features a ramp, a step‑free dock, slip‑resistant surfaces, handrails, a transfer bench, a pull‑out platform and safety straps, built in partnership with local contractor Jenkins Marine and the Recreation Adaptive Society. It complements existing accessible amenities such as fishing piers and washrooms, reflecting CRD’s broader goal of removing barriers for residents with disabilities.
