Saavedra Mayor Matías Nebot faces political tension after drug admission
Political tension has escalated in Saavedra, Argentina, following the appearance of provocative posters and flyers at the entrance of the Honorable Deliberative Council. The messages, which ask, “Mati, who is selling?”, were reportedly placed on the building's gates during the early morning hours. Security cameras failed to identify the individuals responsible due to programming issues.
The incident occurs just before a critical special session scheduled for Friday. During this session, local council members will review the findings of an investigative commission regarding Mayor Matías Nebot. The commission was formed by five opposition blocs following Nebot’s public statements on July 17, in which he disclosed he was in recovery from cocaine addiction and had been clean for 308 days.
The investigation, which concluded on October 8, examined Nebot’s conduct and fitness to hold office. The upcoming legislative session will determine the severity of the findings, which could potentially lead to institutional proceedings or his removal from office.
