Sabah officials urge PIBG to enhance student internet safety
Sabah's Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Datuk James Ratib, has called on Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) to take a more active role in guiding students toward safe and responsible internet use.
Speaking at the 2026 Sabah State Level Safe Internet PIBG Convention, the Minister noted that while digital technology enhances learning, it also exposes children to risks such as cyberbullying, online scams, personal information misuse, and inappropriate content. He emphasized that ensuring digital safety is a shared responsibility between schools, parents, and PIBG members, rather than a burden solely for educational institutions.
Ratib urged parents to monitor their children's online activities, including the applications used and the individuals they interact with. He also highlighted the necessity of digital literacy education to ensure students can use technology critically, ethically, and maturely.
