Türkiye launches COP31 Action Agenda and AI pledge in New York

Türkiye is actively promoting its upcoming presidency of the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), scheduled for November 2026 in Antalya. During the UN General Assembly week in New York, Minister Murat Kurum launched the COP31 Action Agenda, which is framed as an ‘Implementation COP’ focused on turning climate commitments into measurable results through dialogue, consensus, and action.

The Action Agenda outlines 10 priority themes, 6 global goals, 11 initiatives, and 13 supporting outputs. Key 2035 targets include increasing the share of electricity in final energy consumption to 35%, reducing municipal waste generation by half, decreasing building energy intensity by at least 25%, and raising the global circular material use rate to 15%.

In support of these goals, Türkiye has introduced the Antalya Pledge on Artificial Intelligence to address the energy demands of AI infrastructure. Additionally, Sabancı Holding has joined as the official Electrification Partner for COP31, emphasizing the role of clean power in industrial and economic transformation. Preparations in New York include interactive exhibitions at the Turkish House (Turkevi) and promotional campaigns across the city to increase global visibility for the summit.
