Sabarkantha police seize cannabis crop worth 1.72 crore rupees

The Sabarkantha Local Crime Branch (LCB) has seized 967 cannabis plants valued at over 1.72 crore rupees. The seizure occurred in Kotda Garhi village near the Rajasthan border, where the plants were being cultivated under the guise of a cotton crop.

Acting under the ‘Say No to Drugs’ and ‘Drug-Free Sabarkantha’ missions, police raided the fields in the Magra Phaliya area following intelligence regarding illegal cultivation by the Gammar family. Authorities identified the owners as Raichandbhai Ramabhai Gammar, Jaga Ramabhai Gammar, and Rava Punabhai Gammar.

The seized cannabis weighed approximately 345.6 kilograms. Police have arrested 25-year-old Raichandbhai Ramabhai Gammar, while searches continue for the other suspects. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials noted that the hilly and isolated terrain near the border presents significant logistical challenges for monitoring illegal agricultural activities.
