Manaus water supply to be interrupted for maintenance at Ponta do Ismael

On Wednesday, 5 May, Águas de Manaus will carry out scheduled maintenance at the Ponta do Ismael water‑production complex, shutting down its two treatment stations from 06:00 to 18:00. The work will interrupt water service in more than 300 neighborhoods across the North, South, Central‑South, West, Central‑West and part of the East zones of the city. Restoration will be phased: areas close to the complex are expected to have water back within 12 hours, a second group within 24 hours, and the most distant neighborhoods within 48 hours, with full normalization by 7 May. Residents have been urged to store water in advance and the utility will deploy tank trucks to supply hospitals, health centres and schools.

Separately, Sabesp announced that the nightly water‑pressure reduction (Gestão de Demanda Noturna) in the Greater São Paulo area will be shortened from ten to eight hours, now running from 21:00 to 05:00. The change follows higher‑than‑expected rainfall that raised the Cantareira reservoir to 39.87 % of capacity on 30 June and 36.67 % on 31 June, prompting an operation‑3 alert and a withdrawal limit of 27 m³/s.

Other municipalities also reported temporary supply cuts: Guaratinguetá will install eight flow macrometers and interrupt service in several districts on 4‑6 August, while Rio de Janeiro continues to restore water to 15 neighborhoods still affected by a storm‑induced leak.
