Sabrina Sato to be honored in 2027 Carnival parade
The upcoming 2027 Carnival season in Rio de Janeiro will feature tributes to prominent figures in the samba community. The youth samba school Herdeiros da Vila has announced that its theme for the 2027 parade, titled “Na Coroa da Herdeiros, Brilha Sabrina!”, will honor the life and career of presenter and former drum queen Sabrina Sato.
Designed by carnival designer Sidney Rocha, the parade will trace Sato’s journey from her childhood in rural São Paulo through her work in dance, fashion, and television, concluding with her long-standing connection to the Vila Isabel samba school. Sato, who has served as the drum queen for Vila Isabel for 15 years, expressed that the tribute is particularly meaningful as it is presented through the perspective of children from the Morro dos Macacos community.
In a separate development within the samba circuit, Raissa de Oliveira continues her long-standing involvement with the Beija-Flor de Nilópolis school. Despite no longer holding the official title of drum queen, which she occupied from 2003 to 2022, de Oliveira remains an active participant in the community and recently celebrated the school’s new 2027 anthem, “Zeneida: O Sopro do Pó de Louro.”
