Sacred relics and Kaaba covers exhibition opens in Kahramanmaraş

An exhibition featuring Kaaba covers and over 150 sacred relics has opened at the Abdülhamid Han Mosque Youth Center in Onikişubat, Kahramanmaraş. Organized by the Onikişubat Municipality in collaboration with the Provincial Mufti, the event showcases a collection provided by businessman and collector Erol Güzel.

Notable items in the collection include relics attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, such as the Sakal-ı Şerif, Saç-ı Şerif, Kadem-i Şerif, Nal-ı Şerif, and Yatak-ı Şerif. The exhibition also features historical items from Mecca and Medina, various Kaaba covers, and the Black Stone (Hacerü’l-Esved).

A major highlight is a massive handwritten Quran created by calligrapher Recai Özsoy between 2009 and 2013. This significant work measures 150 cm by 110 cm when closed, but reaches approximately 3 meters in width when fully opened. The manuscript weighs about 150 kg and was crafted using 1.5 kg of soot ink and gazelle leather covers decorated with regional Maraş-style embroidery. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open to visitors until September 13, 2026.
