Sacred relics exhibition in Kahramanmaraş
Overview
An exhibition titled ‘Kaaba Covers and Sacred Relics Meeting’ has opened at the Abdülhamid Han Youth Center in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. Organized by the Onikişubat Municipality and the Kahramanmaraş Provincial Mufti, the event is scheduled to run until September 13, 2026.
The exhibition showcases over 150 sacred relics from a collection provided by businessman Erol Güzel. Featured items include relics attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, such as the Sakal-ı Şerif, Saç-ı Şerif, Kadem-ı Şerif, Nal-ı Şerif, and Yatak-ı Şerif, as well as historical items from Mecca and Medina, various Kaaba covers, and the Black Stone.
A central highlight of the event is a massive handwritten Quran created by calligrapher Recai Özsoy between 2009 and 2013. The manuscript weighs approximately 150 kg and measures about 3 meters in width when fully opened. It was crafted using 1.5 kg of soot ink and features gazelle leather covers decorated with regional Maraş-style embroidery.
