SADC Summit security operations deployed in Durban

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has implemented a comprehensive, intelligence-led security plan for the 46th Ordinary SADC Summit in Durban, South Africa. Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili, NATJOINTS chairperson, stated that maximum available resources have been deployed to ensure the safety of the 12 Heads of State and Government expected to attend the regional gathering.

The security operation, which began on August 3, covers the Durban International Convention Centre, accommodation facilities, transport routes, and public spaces. Specialized units including intelligence, crime prevention, public order policing, and traffic management are working under the NATJOINTS framework to proactively identify and mitigate potential threats.

Authorities have warned that while citizens have the constitutional right to march, disruptions to the summit will not be tolerated. Temporary road closures are expected during the transport of delegates, and the public has been urged to plan journeys accordingly to avoid traffic disruptions.
