Sadio Mané launches 11.7 billion CFA agro-industrial project in Bambali

Senegalese football star Sadio Mané has launched SM10 Agro, a major agro-industrial project in his hometown of Bambali, located in the Sédhiou region. The initiative involves an investment of approximately 11.7 billion CFA francs ($20.4 million) to develop the local mango and guava industries.

The complex aims to address significant post-harvest losses in the Casamance region, where an estimated 30% to 40% of mango production is lost due to inadequate storage and processing. The facility will include processing units for mango pulp, dried fruit, and mango butter, with an expected annual capacity of 8,500 to 10,500 tonnes. The project also features a 500-hectare mango plantation and an agricultural training center to provide skills to local youth.

Economically, the project is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs initially, with long-term projections reaching up to 2,500 jobs. During the foundation stone ceremony, officials including National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko highlighted the project's potential to drive regional economic development and food sovereignty. Mané emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the wealth generated from the land remains within the local community.
