Spain to declare catastrophe zone following DANA Adam floods

The Spanish government will officially declare municipalities affected by the DANA Adam storm as a catastrophe zone. This measure, announced by Vice President Carlos Cuerpo, aims to activate ministerial aid for recovery efforts in regions heavily impacted by recent torrential rains.

The storm resulted in seven deaths and approximately 2,600 evacuations. In the Safor and Marina Alta regions, the Generalitat Valenciana has identified 71 infrastructure damages, including 19.3 kilometers of forest tracks requiring reconstruction. In Oliva, identified as a primary impact zone, the storm caused significant disruption, with the local river Girona overflowing after receiving 105 mm of rain in a single hour.

To expedite financial relief, the Insurance Compensation Consortium is adding 150 adjusters to accelerate the processing of indemnities. The economic impact is substantial; farmers in Valencia have reported damages totaling 21 million euros, while the Consortium reported 90 million euros in damages from storms occurring in early October.
